From Solidarity to post-politics and back
Throughout time, researchers and writers have often mentally mapped Europe as a divided entity consisting of an East and a West. Reconsidering the Cold War historiography’s focus on high politics, conflict and confrontation, researchers have recently concentrated on ties and similarities transcending political divides in Europe. On the occasion of this event, we will discuss how writers reinforced or bridged mental maps of Europe. Jessie Labov will focus on publishing across borders from the 18th century to the Cold War in Eastern Europe, while Sławomir Sierakowski will portray the Krytyka Polityczna movement in its historical context and current importance for Poland and Europe.
