Protesters rally against PiS government in Poland

Over 50,000 people took part in an anti-government rally in Warsaw.

On Saturday, over 50,000 people took part in an anti-government rally in Warsaw. Protesters demanded that the Law and Justice (PiS) government respect the constitution and publish the Constitutional Court’s decision, which has reversed PiS amendments passed in December. The large crowd marched symbolically from the building of the Constitutional Court to the Presidential Palace, waving Polish and EU flags and holding anti-PiS banners. The government is criticized for monopolizing power and destabilizing Polish democracy. PiS, however, denies such accusations and claims that democracy in Poland is safe.

The protests started already on Wednesday’s night, when the left-wing party Razem (Together) projected the Constitutional Courts’s verdict on the building of the Prime Minister’s office.
